Deniece Duscheone contemporized the four oceanfront suites of the Metropole Hotel on Catalina Island. The suites range in size from 500 to 600 sf and were finished with a palette of browns, taupes, and aqua against a white background. We custom designed the nightstands and dressers, which have raffia-covered drawers and use environmentally friendly wood in an ebonized finish to create a sleek yet organic feel. The leather beds with tufted headboards, bamboo flooring, custom rugs, and plush armchairs are paired with Phillippe Stark’s Louis Ghost Chair and white lacquer and nickel plated desk to complete the room. We combined vintage elements such as crown moldings and fireplaces with contemporary touches and subtle connections to Los Angeles to invoke a sense of nostalgic modernity.
“We stayed in room 215 and had a wonderful panoramic view of the ocean and smal town hustle-and-bustle. Our suite was high-end and beautifully renovated. Deniece Duscheone redesigned the suites to re-brand the hotel a Catalina’s first sustainable luxury boutique hotel, and did an amazing job.”
“Hotel Metropole has always possessed a casually elegant feeling, but Deniece’s design of the suites has brought a fashionable quality to the island that wasn’t previously here.”
